BOOT HILL & FAIRBANK
John had warned me before heading out to Tombstone that it was a tourist
trap and that the only decent thing about it was Boot Hill, and even
there you have to walk through a gift shop to enter. The original grave
markers
have all been replaced primarily with generic metal crosses painted beige.
While I do get a few
photos
in,
the most interesting discovery is a
Jewish
cemetery
segregated
from the main area.
We follow Boot Hill with a quick stop in Tombstone. Quick because
it doesn't interest me in the least and I'm concerned that we're running
out of good light for future discoveries. So we get
back on the road after lunch only to discover the ghost
town
of Fairbank
just
a few miles west of Tombstone. Here we also discover a cemetery
that
is what Boot Hill
should be--isolated and authentic.
Somewhere between Fairbank and Sahuarita we stop to take some
photos.
This area was spotted by John's wife, who's beginning to develop her
own photographic eye. In fact, she's the only one among us to ever take
a decent photo of a windmill.
