REDEYE PROPHET
My day begins with a redeye flight from LAX to JFK. A five-and-a-half
hour flight followed by a four hour layover till I meet my tour group
in the
afternoon, I foolishly hope I can get some sleep on the flight. Just
before we leave a middle-aged fellow sits beside me. We start to converse
some. He's from Tanzania and is very interested
in
my own travels. We talk for a while and all seems well, then it comes
about: Have I found Jesus? The rest of the flight is his life story
and how he
discovered Jesus and how I need to also. So much for sleep.
The flight ends with this fellow saying he knows he will hear from me
in a year when I invite him to my wedding. I don't really have any
prospects at the moment, but I tell him I'll see what I can do. We exchange
cards
as we arrive in New York. Now I kill four hours in the Food Court at JFK. The flight for Beijing
leaves at 4:30 pm and is thirteen hours long. Again, I'm hoping for
some sleep but not counting on it at this point.
