BACK IN BEIJING
On our way to the Lhasa airport, we make a stop at Yumbulagang,
the oldest building in Tibet. One can either hike up to it or hire a
horse (or
even a camel).
From its heights one can see into India and trace the current Dalai Lama's
escape route during the Cultural Revolution. While others explore these
heights, I explore the lower regions, taking some assorted photos.
At our layover in Chengdu we disembark with all our belongings as we
did before, some now carrying considerably more than when we did this
on our way to Tibet.
We don't arrive in Beijing till late in the evening, though it is still
hot and
humid. Too late for dinner, most of us retire to our rooms, sorry to
find our stay in Tibet over. Being in an occupied country, one has
to keep reminding oneself that it is the Chinese government and not the
Chinese people who are to blame. Mind you, this is a government that
considers the Dalai Lama to be a terrorist. Even so, I do hope to explore
this country more fully some day.
Back in the city
With its crowds and endless smog
Like being back home
