BULLS AND RAIN
A tour of Madrid starts with a stop at the Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas. Inaugurated in 1931, this famous bullring
seats 25,000 and has also been used for concerts. This is followed by a square that features a monument to Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra and his most famous creation: Don Quixote.
While here I snap some assorted photos
of the area. Next it's on to the Royal Palace, but it starts to rain heavily so I'm only able to sneak in two photos
before heading back to the shelter of my hotel.
In the morning begins the journey west toward Portugal. On the way to Coimbra is a stop in Avila, most known for its medieval city walls, which were constructed of brown granite in 1090. Here I take the most photos so far, both color
and black & white.
Avila is a must see in my book and I catch one last panoramic shot on the way out of town.
Next is Salamanca, which lies on a mountain by the Tormes River. Here I find an Internet cafe to check in with friends and family back home, snap a few photos,
and chose a location for lunch based on the cute redhead welcoming patrons outside. Seems like as good a reason as any to me.
