INTO THE LABYRINTH

To reach Madrid, I fly from LAX through London (Heathrow). On the flight to London, I watch Franklyn, which features some very interesting visuals and Eva Green as a redhead, so what's not to like? Once at Heathrow I discover two things: (1) My flight to Madrid is still in Madrid, and (2) Heathrow is one of the most confusing airports I have ever been to. After a bus, a train, and several escalators/elevators, I reach my gate and my flight to Madrid finally takes off. On this flight there is a stewardess that looks like a Spanish Eva Green--I'm noticing a trend here.

Once in Madrid, I settle into my room and then head out for a local dinner and to the nearby market for some provisions. My improved Spanish helps in both endeavors. In the morning it's a trip to Toledo, encircled on three sides by the Tagus River. The old part of the city reminds me of Antigua, my favorite city in Guatemala. I take my usual assortment of color and black and white photos, trying not to take the same photos I took in Antigua. This trip is off to a good start.
