MONKEYS, BIRDS, AND CAIMEN

An early morning to head back onto the lake to watch for birds and monkeys. I end up with lots of blurry photos and shots of just empty branches. By ten it is starting to get rather warm, so we had back to the lodge.

In the afternoon we go with a guide into the jungle. Around the lodge is relatively new growth, so we head into much older vegetation. The jungle is really something that needs to be experienced firsthand--the feel of the heat and humidity on the skin, the sound of insects buzzing and humming in all directions, the sight of hundreds of varieties of flora and fauna surrounding you. I try to capture its essence with a few photos.

In the late afternoon we head back onto the lake, searching for black caiman after sunset. I take a few last photos in the diminishing light. After dark we head along the shore shining flashlights along the edge looking for the orange glow of their eyes. We do find several, though I do not attempt any photos. Sometimes one just needs to sit back and enjoy the moment at hand.
