CLOSING THOUGHTS
Peru and Machu Picchu were all that I had expected. I am very happy we
got up early to catch the 5:20am bus to Machu Picchu as the area began
to flood with tourists in the late morning, and this was during off season.
While
I did see one girl take some time to meditate and become one with the
environment, dozens of others were walking around yakking on their cell
phones. I again resisted the urge to throw my camera at them.
Now that I've been to a few busy cities around the world, I've come
to realize that nothing seems to have the right of way and that the lines
in the road are only suggestions. The taxi ride to and from the Lima
airport will certainly take a few years from most anyone's life. So will
trying
to cross certain intersections.
I've also come to love the way my name is pronounced in Latin America:
Jeremy becomes "Yeramie" and Jeremiah become "Yeramias." And
while people here in the states are always mispelling my name (my favorite
variations are Jerome and Jaramaya), a girl in a fast food restaurant
in Cusco, who
couldn't
speak
English,
spelled it perfectly. All the reason to return.
