(RECENTLY) UNCOVERED RUINS
Like standing on the Great Wall and being amazed to find yourself there,
Machu Picchu is one of those areas that can overwhelm you. Visually stunning,
historically significant, and did I mention I'm standing in the middle
of it? The black & white
photographer
in me goes wild. I do also take several color
shots.
While heading up, two of us decided to hike out to the Inca
drawbridge.
Someone coming from that area tells us it is only five to ten minutes
to reach it. After twenty minutes of hiking a slippery path along the
edge of a steep
canyon wall, I consult my Lonely Planet guide to find that it is indeed
a twenty minute hike. Another five or so minutes and we finally reach
the bridge.
Several camelids
can
be found around the Hut of the Caretaker of the Funerary Rock. As the crowds
are beginning to grow, I take a few more elevated
shots
then
head down for some close-ups in color
and black & white
that
cut out the tourists. Along with the crowds comes the heat, so I soon head
back into town. Before leaving, I do get my passport
stamped.
