AN AMERICAN TOURIST IN LONDON (Day 33)
It's been thirty-three days since I left my California home and headed for London (and six other countries). Today is my first day as a tourist, seeing the main sights all tourists come to see. As this is H’s town, I let her take the lead. First up: A train to Waterloo Station
followed by the London Eye,
which I become a little obsessed with.
This is followed by a stroll down to Westminster Bridge
and my first glimpses of Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. It's high season for tourists and they are out in abundance. Why is it they always have to stop in the middle of the road to check their maps?
We explore
a bit more of Westminster before heading to St. James' Park, where we spend an hour having a lunch packed by H on deck chairs surrounded by office workers sunning themselves on the grass (some in bikinis). We then resume our exploration, heading to Buckingham Palace,
home to the British monarchy since Queen Victoria took up residence in 1837. Here I do my best to catpure a decent photo of a Royal Guard.
We end our day at Piccadilly Circus,
where we eventually make our way to the tube and back to our apartment.
