EN ROUTE TO EL FUERTE

It is a long train ride to El Fuerte. The train passes through 86 tunnels and crosses 37 bridges. The longest tunnel, "El Descanso," is over a mile in length and is the last tunnel before reaching El Fuerte. It takes over two minutes to pass through it. Between the train cars there is an open area to take photos, but with so many tunnels I could easily see myself being so engrossed in snapping a photo that I don't see the tunnel coming and there is the end to my journey. Instead, I snap a few photos from my not-so-clean window.

We do make a brief stop at Divisadero, which overlooks three of the canyons in the area. I take a few photos of some of the wears available for sale along with some shots of the canyons. We are only given twelve minutes for this stop and are told that after a long whistle blow, the train will leave without us, so I keep a close eye on the time.

Back on the train I snap some more shots from my window as we continue on through the canyons and toward El Fuerte. The balancing act for dinner goes a little more smoothly as I'm beginning to get the hang of train travel.
