THE ETHEREAL EXPRESS

Following the morning's exploration of Creel, we head to the train station to await our train through Copper Canyon, ending in El Fuerte. According to locals, the train we are waiting on is known as the Ethereal Express because "Only God knows when it will arrive." Anything within an hour of its stated arrival is considered on time. Before heading to the station, I snap a few shots of them packing our luggage on a truck. We kept waiting for them to use straps or some other form of restraint but they never do.

While waiting for the train, I snap a photo of a girl selling apples and chocolate bars. Creel has also been our first sighting of the Tarahumara natives. They prefer not to be photographed and typically avoid eye contact. We will encounter them throughout our trip as they reside all about the canyons.

The 11:15 train arrives at 11:45, so it's on time. Lunch is a challenge as one needs to try to keep drink and plate from tipping over, and keep an eye on their companions. Fortunately while catching a falling water bottle, my own bottle of soda remains in place. I chalk it up to good karma and a little good luck.
