A DAY OF DRIVING
The first full day is one of driving. We depart El Paso very early in
the morning to try to beat the crush at the border, which only takes
about an hour to cross. After leaving Juarez, we switch from our American
bus to a Mexican one, which is similar, though a little smaller. Lunch
is
in the outskirts of Chihuahua, which we will return to at the end of
our journey. On our way to Creel we make a stop in La Junta. The photographer
in me is getting anxious, so I take a few
photos,
though most could have
been taken anywhere.
My room in Creel is far more rustic than my suite the night before,
but compared to some of the accommodations in Tibet, it's grand. If you
can actually sit on the toilet, it's a good room. The group is offered
a complimentary margarita upon arrival and for some reason those that
don't want theirs decide to pass them on to me. Needless to say, I'm
feeling
fine
in no
time. I follow this by watching a few episodes of The
Simpsons dubbed
in Spanish.
After a decent night's sleep I discover that I've brought along the
world's worst
disposable
razor.
After
five
minutes
of
ripping
and
tearing, I decide that I'll wait and see if I can find a better one
in El Fuerte.
