BARRANCAS DEL COBRE
After reaching my destination, I explore
the area
some
then notice ominous clouds dumping rain to the east. I head back down
to the hotel
then hike along with a few others from my group to an overhang opposite
of where I had just come from.We head back in as the skies continue to
darken. Before dinner I consume one too many piña coladas followed
by some red
wine
while sitting on my room's
balcony watching the sun set.
This makes for a late start the following morning. I do snap a few photos
around
the hotel
before
heading out.
As I'd hiked up the day before, this morning I decide to hike down.
There is a trail leading to a Tarahumara
village
but
once there I feel like
a
trespasser, so I decide to explore away from the village. A take some
assorted
photos.
The
night before our guide had brought in two Tarahumara as part of a discussion,
a woman in her eighties and a girl of six. The girl, after being
very timid at first, kept going back to the last row of people where
it turns out they were stuffing her pockets full of dollar bills. She
also started playing a game with the woman seated in front of me, which
lit up her face. It was a wonderful moment and I had left my
camera in my room, violating my first rule of travel: Always have a camera.
