THE ROAD LESS TRAVELLED
Upon our return to the hotel, I take a few photos.
After a few hours we head back out on the boat.
This time we are sailing into Panajachel,
which is again filled with shop after shop ostensibly selling the same things, though I do pick up a wooden bowl because of an incredible blue it possesses at its base.
In the morning we head out on our next long travel day, this time into Honduras. Before we go, we stop for one last view of Lake Atitlan
and its surrounding volcanoes. Then the fun begins. An hour into the drive we discover that the road is blocked by a mudslide, so we have to head back to where we'd just come from to try a second route. Less than an hour on that route and there's another mudslide. So we end up on a lesser used southern route known for bandits that like to hold up tour buses.
Only two hours off schedule, we make it to the Honduran border only to find that the bridge just beyond has been washed out. Yet another alternate route along with some skillful driving finally finds us at our hotel. The good news? They happen to employ one of the world's most beautiful bartenders and a drink is certainly in order.
