CREATED BY FIRE

In the morning we head down to the pier before embarking on an hour long boat ride to Santiago Atitlán, squeezed between the volcanoes of Tolimán and San Pedro and home to a large arts and crafts scene. I cannot resist some black & white shots, along with a few other shots while at sea.

Once docked, we make our way into the village. Like other areas we've visited so far, Santiago Atitlán is mostly one shop after another, all seemingly selling the same things. I take a few photos as we wander around town. We stop at a cantina for a drink, where I try a Guatemalan beer. I also find myself taking more black & white shots.

We visit the Iglesia Parroquial Santiago Apostol, constructed between 1572 and 1581. Inside we see our first statue of God, who can always be recognized by the triangle affixed behind His head. The statues of saints here are quite animated and wear clothes made by local women every year. There is even one in a very striking Elvis pose. While photos are allowed, I leave them to others.
