TEXTILES, MASKS, AND STATUES

On our way to Lake Atitlán, we make a stop in Katok to stretch our legs. While there, I decide to get in a little black & white practice while the others are shopping. This is the first of four long travel days, which will span every other day, so any stop is appreciated.

Before stopping at the marketplace in Chichicastenango, we have lunch. Afterward, I wander around the grounds a bit and take a few more black & white photos. Then it's on to market day. I snap some photos of various wears as we head toward Santo Tomas Church, built in 1540. Two of us wander out of the main area as neither of us is much into shopping. I take some assorted photos along the way.

We then head into Panajachel, where we will take a thirty minute boat ride to Santa Catarina Palopó, where our next hotel lies. By now it is raining, so it is a dash from the boat to the hotel. We are surrounded by the San Pedro, Toliman, and Atitlán Volcanoes, which we will get a better view of in the morning when we head out by sea to reach the village of Santiago Atitlán.
