ENDICOTT ARM
After Juneau, we make a veer from our northerly route to return
fifty miles southeast to Endicott Arm, home of Dawes Glacier. Endicott Arm is a twenty-mile-long fjord with countless waterfalls and 5000 foot mountain peaks. The water here is filled with chunks of ice that have been calved by the glacier and has a distinct, milky viridian color. As we are a few hours from sunset, the temperature is also rapidly dropping.
While making our way down the fjord, I take several photos
of the surrounding
area, including a few of the chunks of ice
passing by the ship. The
glacier itself is shrouded in mist, though I do get a few photos
in.
On the way out it's more photos of the wonderful terrain,
with all its waterfalls
and low hanging clouds. I have never seen so many waterfalls in one area in my life.
We are running late as halfway to the fjord we had to make a return trip
to Juneau for a medical emergency, so I'm expecting a high speed night as we are supposed to reach Skagway by seven the following morning.
