KETCHIKAN BY AIR
Once into Alaska we gain an hour, meaning up an hour earlier than
expected. Anticipating my seaplane excursion later in the day, I photograph
some of the seaplanes
flying past the ship (along with a few more assorted balcony
shots). Down to breakfast, then past the dock and into town.
Ketchikan has rain most days of the year and today is no exception.
I have an hour to kill, so I wander around the main area near the port,
full of jewelry and souvenir stores. I take some photos,
browse
around a few stores, then take a few more photos when I get to the seaport.
I then head out over the Misty Fjords in a de Havilland DHC-3 Otter, seating ten (not counting the pilot). I take several assorted
photos
from my seat, doing the best I can to crop out rain drops and
window frames. I then get a little more creative when we set down and
take some shots from the pontoon
I'm standing on. It's an incredibly
exhilirating yet meditative experience. I begin to wonder how long it would take to get one's pilot's
license.
